Diaries and autobiographical reminiscences kept by investment consultant Arthur Carlisle Hodges of Essex, Mass. from 1979-2008. Hodges records his memories of growing up in Pittsburgh, Penn.; family members including his parents Fletcher and Margaret Hodges and brothers John A. and Fletcher Hodges III; attending boarding school at Kent in Connecticut and college at Harvard (Class of 1953); marriage to and life with Eloise Weld Hodges; birth of his children Arthur, Jr., Susanna, and Alexander; work as an investment consultant in Boston; annual family vacations; social engagements with Weld and Warren family members, among others; and general life milestones. Also included are reminiscences, short stories, and vacation summaries written by Eloise Weld Hodges, photographs, and family histories and genealogies. Diaries kept by Arthur C. Hodges, which begin in 1979, describe work; family events and social gatherings including children's and grandchildren's activities; college and family reunions; leisure activities; hiking portions of the Appalachian Trail; political, social, and economic news; improvements to the home in Essex; and births and deaths of family members. Included in the diaries are newspaper clippings, letters from family members, photographs, and yearly economic outlook and investment review for Hodges' company, Welch & Forbes.
